Dallas Police Officer Killed, Two Injured in Thursday Night Shooting; Suspect Dead Following Pursuit

DALLAS, TX – A Dallas Police Department officer was killed, and two others were injured in a shooting on Thursday night.

The suspect was later shot and killed by police following a high-speed chase, according to officials.

It happened around 10:10 p.m. when officers responded to a distress call in the 900 block of East Ledbetter Drive. Upon arrival, they found a male suspect near a squad car belonging to an officer who had been shot. The suspect exchanged gunfire with the responding officers, injuring two more.

Following the initial shooting, the suspect fled the scene, leading police on a chase northbound on I-35E. The pursuit involved multiple law enforcement agencies, including assistance from the Lewisville Police Department. The suspect was eventually stopped and shot by officers on the 1000 block of Stemmons Freeway after exiting his vehicle with what was described as a “long gun.”

The identities of the officers involved have not been released. Sources indicate that the officer who was killed was a rookie, while one of the injured officers is in critical condition, and another is expected to survive after being shot in the leg.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been made public.

The officers were transported to Baylor Scott & White and Methodist Dallas Medical Center for treatment.

Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia expressed the department’s grief on social media, writing, “No words.”

The Texas Rangers, the Dallas Police Department, and the District Attorney’s Office are investigating the incident.
