HOUSTON, TX – A Harris County Sheriff’s Office investigation led to the arrest of attorney Jason Johnson, 42, on Monday. Johnson is accused of delivering synthetic marijuana to a defendant at the Harris County Criminal Justice Center earlier this month.
Johnson was taken into custody at the courthouse following an investigation by the Sheriff’s Office’s Detentions Criminal Investigations and Security Division. The Harris County District Attorney’s Office has filed felony charges against Johnson, including possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility and engaging in organized crime.
According to authorities, Johnson allegedly delivered sheets laced with synthetic marijuana to a client incarcerated at the Harris County Jail. The delivery reportedly took place during a court hearing on August 5, 2024.
The arrest is part of ongoing efforts by the Sheriff’s Office to combat contraband in the jail. Sheriff Ed Gonzalez created the Detentions Criminal Investigations and Security Division in 2023 to address this issue. Recent measures include deploying drug-sniffing dogs and enhancing security screenings for employees and visitors. The Harris County Jail also passed a health and safety inspection by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.
The investigation remains ongoing, and additional charges are possible.
