SAN ANGELO, TX – Danielle Fishel, lead of the popular 90’s sitcom ‘Boy Meets World,’ revealed she had been diagnosed with a form of breast cancer on Monday, August 19.
Fishel, 43, disclosed her diagnosis on Monday's episode of her podcast, Pod Meets World, which she hosts with former co-stars Will Friedle and Rider Strong.
“I would like to share something with our listeners, something that Rider and Will were actually two of the first people I told the news to,” Fishel said on her podcast.
“It is very, very, very early,” the actress continued. “It’s technically stage zero. To be specific, I was diagnosed with high-grade DCIS with micro-invasion. And I’m going to be fine. I’m having surgery to remove it. I’m going to be on some follow-up treatment. I’ve had to make a lot of decisions over the last couple of days.”
According to the American Cancer Society, ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) means the cells that line the milk ducts of the breast have become cancerous but have not spread into surrounding breast tissue.
Johns Hopkins Medicine says DCIS can be treated with surgery, sometimes with radiation and medicine, and that chemotherapy is not needed.

Fishel stated that she was not going to announce her diagnosis initially but recognized that she could help others with her health story.
“And as I’ve gotten older, I have really tried to learn from the experiences of others,” Fishel continued. “Because I don’t think I did that enough when I was younger.”
Fishel told her podcast listeners that she has some ‘big decisions’ ahead regarding her discovery of DCIS.
Both of Fishel’s co-hosts have shown their support after revealing her diagnosis as well.
