AUSTIN, TX — The Austin Police Department is requesting the public’s help in identifying a suspected serial killer whose DNA has been linked to the murders of two women in the Austin area.
During an investigation into the death of a 34-year-old woman, Alysssa Rivera, whose body was found June 21 in Austin, police learned of a DNA connection to an unsolved murder from 2018 in neighboring Bastrop County.
The Bastrop County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the murder of Alba Jenisse Aviles, who left Club Caribe in Austin before she was murdered April 14, 2018.
The club is about 3 miles away from the location of Rivera’s murder, and both homicides appear to be sexual in nature, according to police.
No suspect has been identified in either case, but DNA evidence confirms it is the same suspect in both cases.
On July 3, police released video and images of a person of interest in Rivera’s murder. The videos showed what appeared to be a Hispanic male walking next to a woman who was taller than he was.
