AUSTIN, TX — Two Texas State Veterans Homes have been honored with the prestigious Commitment to Quality Bronze Award by the American Health Care Association/National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).

The Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring and the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville received the award, as announced today by Texas Land Commissioner and Texas Veterans Land Board (VLB) Chairwoman Dawn Buckingham, M.D.

“As VLB Chairwoman, it is an honor to recognize the Lamun-Lusk-Sanchez Texas State Veterans Home in Big Spring and the Frank M. Tejeda Texas State Veterans Home in Floresville for the incredible achievement of receiving the Commitment to Quality Bronze Award,” said Buckingham. “The VLB works hard to provide high-quality long-term care to Veterans across Texas, and this award highlights the dedication these homes have to improving the quality of life of Texas Veterans and the staff who care for them. I want to thank Touchstone Communities, which operates both homes, for their unwavering commitment to excellence. I look forward to the continued success of our invaluable Texas State Veterans Homes.”

The AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program recognizes organizations that meet strict performance standards aimed at enhancing the lives of residents and staff in long-term and post-acute care facilities. Out of more than 15,000 facilities evaluated nationwide in 2024, only 709 received the Commitment to Quality Bronze Award, with 16 of those being in Texas. Notably, two of these award-winning facilities are VLB Texas State Veterans Homes operated by Touchstone Communities.

The Bronze Award is the initial step in the AHCA/NCAL Quality Award Program, allowing organizations to establish a solid foundation by defining their mission, vision, and other critical factors. After achieving the Bronze Award, facilities can pursue the Silver Award, which emphasizes organizational effectiveness and opportunities for improvement. The highest honor, the Gold Award, is reserved for organizations demonstrating superior leadership, strategic planning, and exceptional satisfaction among customers and staff.
