EASTLAND, TX – A single-vehicle crash on Interstate 20 resulted in the death of a Fort Worth man on Friday evening, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
It happened around 7 p.m. on August 9, about half a mile west of Eastland, Texas, near the 343-mile marker.
The crash involved a 2005 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by Kelly Michael Sims, 62, of Fort Worth.
According to the preliminary DPS investigation, Sims was traveling west in the inside lane of I-20 when he veered left into the center median. He then overcorrected, steering back toward the roadway, which caused the vehicle to enter a side skid. The pickup truck crossed both westbound lanes, left the north side of the roadway, and overturned. Sims, who was not wearing a seatbelt, was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover.
Sims was transported to Eastland Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased just after 8 p.m. by Dr. Orgi Christian.
The posted speed limit in the area is 75 mph. At the time of the crash, weather conditions were clear, and the road was dry.
