Wall Hawks Ready to Air it Out in 2024

WALL, TX — Football is back in Hawk Country, and the Wall Hawks look to enter a new chapter under the leadership of former Defensive Coordinator Craig Slaughter. Wall began their 2024 season on Monday with practice at Hawk Stadium.

The players looked excited to be back and flew around the field with high energy all practice. Coach Slaughter commented on Wall’s overall performance throughout the first day.

“I thought they looked sharp,” Slaughter commented. “Day 1 is like Christmas morning. You are so excited to see (the players) walk through those doors. It’s nice to see the energy there—we have great expectations for this season and like I said, it was a great day one.”\

As mentioned in previous articles, the Hawks’ offense will not be the same one that the Concho Valley has been used to seeing over the last 15 years. Wall intends to spread the ball around in 2024. The spread offense will be a change from the triple-option in previous years, but one of the leading candidates for starting quarterbacks says he is excited to get the ball to guys in space.

“I’m looking forward to airing it out,” Caleb Braden, the potential Hawks’ QB1, said. “I love to see the ball fly through the air.”

He is echoed by his fellow teammates, including some of the big boys up front. Hawks’ Right Tackle Emmett Marlatt gave his thoughts on Wall’s new offense.

“We are working on the transition, especially with our footwork,” Marlatt said.

As a team used to the ground and pound, the offensive line might have the largest transition in the Hawks' new offense.

"It's really completely different," Marlatt continued. "Now, we are always sitting back and not putting our heads down."

If the Hawks are to make a successful transition to the spread, time and study will be required to learn a completely new offense. Look out this year for a season full of highlight reels.

The Hawks open up 2024 on the road at Mason on Friday, August 30. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
