Man Killed in Officer-Involved Shooting in Abilene

 

ABILENE, TX — One man was killed in an officer-involved shooting in Abilene yesterday. 

This happened around 6:30 p.m. within the 3800 block of North Ninth Street on August 1, 2024. 

The deceased has been identified as 39-year-old Cris Steenblock.

According to information, the situation unfolded when police responded to a domestic disturbance call. According to the caller, Steenblock was causing a disturbance, damaging property, and becoming physical with his parents.

As the officer approached, Steenblock advanced towards the officer with weapons in both hands in the street. Steenblock was given multiple commands to drop the weapons but did not comply and continued to advance towards the officer. The officer fired his service weapon, striking the man.

Steenblock was pronounced dead at the scene by the Justice of the Peace.

No officers were injured during the incident. The involved officer has been placed on administrative leave per standard protocol.

The Texas Rangers and the Department of Public Safety are conducting a concurrent investigation into the shooting.
