DeLeon Man Killed in Single-Vehicle Coleman County Crash

BURKETT, TX — A single-vehicle crash claimed the life of a 22-year-old man early Friday morning on State Highway 206, north of Burkett, Texas.

The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) reported that Larry James Herron III of DeLeon, Texas, was pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Vickie Kemp.

This happened on July 26, 2024, at around 7 a.m. when Herron was driving a 2016 Toyota Corolla southbound on SH 206 in heavy fog.

According to information from DPS, Herron was traveling too fast for the foggy and wet conditions. As the roadway curved to the right, Herron failed to navigate the curve, leaving the roadway and attempting to re-enter.

Herron’s vehicle entered a side skid off the roadway, struck a culvert, and overturned. DPS reported that Herron was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident and was ejected from the vehicle.

No other vehicles were involved in the collision, and no other injuries were reported. The posted speed limit on the stretch of SH 206 where the accident occurred is 75 mph.
