BROWNWOOD, TX – A single-vehicle crash on County Road 225, five miles south of Brownwood, resulted in the death of one juvenile and injuries to two others, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).
This happened on July 25, 2024, around 8:15 p.m. A 2007 Toyota 4Runner, driven by a 16-year-old female from Brownwood, lost control and overturned multiple times. The vehicle came to rest on its wheels after veering off the east side of the roadway.
A passenger in the vehicle, a 16-year-old female from Brownwood, was pronounced dead at 8:51 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Mitchell Jacobson. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
The driver, who was also wearing a seatbelt, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was transported by a private vehicle. Another passenger, Neely Hope Mullins, 17, from Brownwood, was also wearing a seatbelt and suffered non-incapacitating injuries. She was transported to Hendrick Medical Center in Brownwood for treatment.
Preliminary investigations by DPS indicate that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed, which was unsafe for the roadway conditions. The posted speed limit on CR 225 is 60 mph. The road conditions were dry, and the weather was clear at the time of the crash.
