LAS VEGAS, NV — Former Dallas Cowboys and current Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Michael Gallup has retired from football after six seasons. In a surprise announcement to the world, Gallup said he’s hanging up his helmet and cleats just months after signing with the Raiders.
Gallup opted not to post about his decision on social media but highlighted what other people had said about him on his X account.
Dallas drafted Gallup in the 3rd Round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Colorado State. During his tenure with the Cowboys, he compiled 266 catches for 3744 yards and 21 touchdowns. His best year came in 2019 when he eclipsed the thousand-yard mark for the only time in his career. He had 66 receptions for 1107 yards and added another six TDs that season.
Gallup was a solid No. 2 option for the Cowboys, first behind Amari Cooper and then behind CeeDee Lamb over the past several seasons. A torn ACL in Week 17 at the end of the 2021 season severely hampered Gallup in his final two seasons with the Cowboys. He never truly recovered from that injury.

The Cowboys gave Gallup the opportunity this offseason to seek a trade before they ultimately cut him. He signed with the Las Vegas Raiders earlier this year before announcing his surprise retirement.
Dallas still has receiver issues to deal with as their No. 1 target, Lamb, continues to hold out without a new contract. The Cowboys begin Training Camp on Thursday, July 25, in Oxnard, California. Owner Jerry Jones and Head Coach Mike McCarthy presented the “State of the Cowboys” on Thursday.
