San Angelo ISD Approves 2024-25 Compensation Plan

SAN ANGELO, TX - The San Angelo Independent School District Board of Trustees approved the 2024-25 compensation plan at a board meeting held on Monday, July 22.

The plan includes several adjustments focused on enhancing employee benefits and addressing changes in federal labor regulations.

Compensation Plan Highlights:

  • Overtime Eligibility Adjustments: In response to anticipated increases in compensation thresholds for overtime eligibility by the Department of Labor, the board considered future adjustments to ensure compliance.
  • Health Insurance Contribution Increase: The district’s monthly health insurance contribution for employees will increase from $420 to $479. This change translates to an additional $59 per month per employee, amounting to an annual increase of over $5,700 in total compensation per employee, although this benefit is not directly reflected in take-home pay.
  • General Pay Increase: A mid-point general pay increase is proposed for all eligible and returning employees.

Dr. Jason Skelton, Executive Director of Human Resources, spoke about the value of the increased health insurance contribution as part of the employee’s total compensation package.

He said that for hourly employees, the increase equates to a $3.75 raise an hour.

Board Treasurer Bill Dendle noted that the $59 monthly increase in health insurance contributions represents a $1.2 million annual expense for the district. He also said that it's been part of the school district's "mantra" to offer a plan that doesn't cost teachers or employees anything.

Board Secretary Gerard Gallegos made a motion to approve the compensation plan, with a stipulation for potential adjustments. If additional revenue becomes available through legislative action or board and voter approval, the adopted budget will be amended to sustain the midpoint general pay increase or retention incentives.

The motion passed 7-0.
