Violent San Angelo Man Indicted for Beating Father Unconscious

SAN ANGELO, TX— A San Angelo man has been indicted after beating his father with a metal broomstick, knocking him unconscious.

Jimmy Perez, 38, of San Angelo, has been indicted by a Tom Green County grand jury for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon after hitting his father with a broomstick.

According to court documents, a call for service was received on October 10, 2018, regarding an assault on the 1000 block of Orient Street. The call notes indicated that the victim had been attacked by his son, Perez, and that the victim had a bloody arm and a small injury on his head.

Officers arrived on the scene and began investigating by contacting the Shannon Emergency Room and investigating on scene. At Shannon, the investigator made contact with the victim, who stated that Perez hit him several times with a broom in the head and arm, causing him to go unconscious. The victim also stated willingness to press charges.

The investigator was also made aware that Perez had made terroristic threats less than a week prior, where he threatened to kill the victim while holding a pair of hedge clippers.

The search for Perez began on scene, and investigators spoke with a witness who stated that he was threatening to “kill them both” as he hit the victim with the broom. The witness was in fear for her life as well, and she was unable to call the police as Perez had broken her phone. Since her phone was broken, the witness had to call from Highland Grocery.

The weapon used in the beating was observed as a five-foot aluminum framed broom and had several bends in the frame.

Perez was taken into custody near Avenue N and Randolph Street. At the station, Perez waived his Miranda Rights and was interviewed. He stated that he had gone to the residence on Orient Street for money. He was denied and went into an angry rage, beating his father. When he was asked if there were other options to deal with his anger, Perez stated, “No.”

Perez was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on October 10, 2018, and was released on April 27, 2021. Perez was booked again on July 22, 2024, for the indictment. He is next due in court on July 24, 2024, for a hearing.
