AMARILLO, TX - A baby bird wrapped in a warm tortilla was safely transported to the Wild West Wildlife Rehabilitation Center in Amarillo.
This happened after the center received a call about a possible orphaned Barn Owl. The rehabber managing the call inquired if they had already placed it in a box, to which they responded “We wrapped him in a warm tortilla."
After “significant silence” on the rehabber’s side she quickly ended the call and arranged for a transporter.
A rehabber arrived at the location and was welcomed by a friendly family holding a baby Mississippi Kite wrapped in a tortilla.
According to the rehab center, while barbecuing and swimming, the family noticed the baby bird on the ground without any parents nearby. Concerned about the baby feeling cold, the mother asked for a tortilla to be warmed up on the grill to provide heat for it.
The rehab center stated that the warm tortilla was “surprisingly” effective. The hatchling was escorted back to the facility.
The center is accepting donations for the bird’s care, including frozen mice and insects, which can be made online or mailed to their facility.
