KANSAS CITY, MO — The National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) recently announced the 2023-24 Team Academic Excellence Awards recipients. Under head coach Vinay Patel, Angelo State Men's Basketball received recognition for outstanding academic performance during the past academic year.
The NABC Team Academic Excellence Awards honor men's basketball programs that achieved a team GPA of 3.0 or higher for the 2023-24 academic year.
In addition to the team award, graduate students Barlow Alleruzzo IV and Trey Farrer, along with junior DJ Freeman, were named to the NABC Honors Court. The Honors Court recognizes junior, senior, and graduate student-athletes who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher throughout the academic year.
Alleruzzo IV and Farrer graduated in May with master's degrees, with Alleruzzo IV earning his degree in Coaching, Sport, Recreation, and Fitness Administration, and Farrer in Business Data Analytics. Freeman is pursuing a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at Angelo State.
Over 2,100 players were honored this year on the NABC Honors Court, and more than 360 programs received Team Academic Excellence Awards.
"The NABC is proud to celebrate these accomplished student-athletes, along with the coaches and staff who champion success in the classroom," said NABC Executive Director Craig Robinson. "Education is a core value of the NABC, and the teams and athletes who earned these awards prove that academic achievement remains a priority across every level of our sport."
