Sunny and Hot: Independence Day Forecast

 

SAN ANGELO, TX — As Independence Day celebrations kick off, the National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for parts of the Concho Valley and Big Country regions, including San Angelo, effective from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. today. 

Temperatures are expected to soar up to 105 degrees, prompting NWS to urge residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.

In addition to the heat advisory, today’s weather forecast predicts high temperatures ranging from the upper 90s to near 105 degrees across the region. South winds are expected to blow at 10 to 20 mph, with higher gusts possible.

Tonight will be mostly clear with a low around 78 accompanied by a southeast wind blowing at 10 to 15mph. 

Upcoming Weather:

  • Independence Day: Sunny and hot, with morning lows in the mid to upper 70s and afternoon highs between the upper 90s and 105 degrees.
  • Friday: Partly cloudy with scattered showers, morning lows in the mid to upper 70s, and afternoon highs in the low 90s.
  • Saturday: Partly cloudy with scattered showers, morning lows in the lower 70s, and afternoon highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.
  • Sunday: Mostly sunny with morning lows in the lower 70s and afternoon highs in the mid to upper 90s.

Heat Safety Tips:

  • Slow Down: Reduce, eliminate, or reschedule outdoor activities.
  • Dress Appropriately: Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Stay Hydrated: Drink plenty of water and avoid alcoholic or caffeinated fluids.
  • Stay Indoors: Spend time in air-conditioned places and keep an eye on those without access to air conditioning.
  • Avoid Excess Sun Exposure: Sunburn reduces the body’s ability to dissipate heat.
