SPRINGFIELD, IL — An Illinois resident has won the $560 million Mega Millions jackpot, the ninth-largest prize in the game's history.
The winning ticket for Tuesday's drawing matched all six numbers, including the gold Mega Ball.
The winning numbers were 19, 37, 40, 63, 69, and Mega Ball 17, with a Megaplier of 3. The cash option for the jackpot was valued at $264 million.
In addition to the jackpot winner, two other players, one from California and another from Maryland, will each receive $1 million for matching all five white ball numbers.
The Illinois lottery announced that the winning ticket was purchased online.
The identity of the jackpot winner remains unknown, and it is unclear whether they will opt for the lump-sum cash payout.
When a winner matches all five numbers and the Mega Ball, they have the option to take the full jackpot paid out as an annuity over 30 years, or a smaller lump sum cash payout.
This year has already seen two billion-dollar lottery winners. In March, a New Jersey ticket won a $1.13 billion Mega Millions jackpot, followed by an Oregon Powerball ticket hitting a $1.3 billion jackpot in April.
Now that the jackpot has been won, the prize is back down to $20 million for Friday's drawing.
Mega Millions drawings take place on Tuesday and Friday at 11 p.m. Eastern Time.
The odds of winning the Mega Millions jackpot are one in 302,575,350.
