WASHINGTON, DC — Congressman August Pfluger (TX-11) announced the winner of the 2024 Congressional Art Competition for the 11th Congressional District of Texas: Killeen High School senior Emily Parsons with her piece titled "The American Dream."
Emily’s piece depicts a family, who are a symbol of American prosperity and happiness, at sunset. The winning creation will hang in the U.S. Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. for a full year where it can be viewed by visitors and Members of Congress.
Congressman Pfluger's office also awarded Regional Winners as follows:
- Midland Region: Angel Naila, Trinity School Midland
- San Angelo Region: Paris Lack, Texas Online Preparatory Program
- Llano Region: Jennifer Barcenas, San Saba High School
- Brownwood Region: Sunny Groom, Early Middle School
- Killeen Region: Amarilis Muniz, Killeen High School
"Congratulations to Emily Parsons for taking home the first-place prize in the 2024 Congressional Art Competition, and well done to all the regional winners," Pfluger stated. "It is wonderful to see these awesome students leveraging their natural talents and creating art that highlights the spirit of America. I hope this competition inspires all the entrants to continue pursuing their artistic talents and I look forward to seeing Emily's wonderful painting hang in the U.S. Capitol."
