Plane Crash in Midland

MIDLAND, TX — A Cessna-made aircraft crashed at Midland Airpark this morning at around 11 a.m., according to CBS7. The mishap aircraft came to a rest beside the runway with a bent wing.

According to aircraft registration records with the FAA, the aircraft was a 1978 Cessna 180K and a taildragger, meaning the aircraft has two main gear in front and a small gear in the back, underneath the plane’s tail.

The weather at the Midland Airpark was clear with a light southerly breeze. Winds were favoring runway 16.

CBS7, quoting the City of Midland, said if there were injuries, they were minor. Two souls were aboard the Cessna.

According to Flightaware, the plane took off from Midland Airpark at 9:25 a.m. Its flight track indicates it was likely a training of proficiency sortie with multiple touch and goes at the Big Spring airport before returning to the Midland Airpark. The flight path indicates an 10:58 a.m. landing time.

The Cessna seemed to have veered off the left side of the runway just before the 1,000-foot marker. Winds were 180 degrees at 7 knots at the airport.

Midland Airpark is a popular general aviation airport located on the northwest side of the city. Business travelers often prefer landing at this airport because it is closer to downtown than the Spaceport located between Midland and Odessa.
