SAN ANGELO, TX - Shannon Medical Center received its third consecutive “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog.
Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections, as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
This distinction recognizes Shannon’s achievements in prioritizing patient safety by protecting patients from preventable harm and errors in the hospital, information stated.
Shannon is the only hospital in the West Texas region to achieve an “A” rating in Spring 2024.
“I want to commend our entire team at Shannon for achieving this recognition now three times in a row,” said Shane Plymell, President and CEO at Shannon. “Our vision at Shannon is to be trusted by the patients and families we serve, and every provider and team member at Shannon plays an important part in putting patient safety first. We want our patients to feel confident we will provide safe, high-quality care and service. This recognizes our entire organization for dedication to excellence and always improving care for our patients.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, infections, and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and accessible to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Everyone who works at Shannon should be proud of the ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “It takes complete dedication at every level and an ironclad commitment to putting patients first. I thank Shannon, its leadership, clinicians, staff, and volunteers for caring so deeply for its patients and their safety.”
