SAN ANGELO, Texas - The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch effective late this afternoon through tonight for the Concho Valley and West Central Texas. Large to very large hail, damaging wind gusts, and a few tornadoes are possible during this period. Additionally, locally heavy rainfall may lead to localized flash flooding.
Thursday through Tuesday - Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are expected across much of the area. While dangerous lightning remains the primary concern, the potential for storms reaching severe levels will need to be monitored closely.
The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9:00 PM CDT for the following Texas counties: Andrews, Borden, Brewster, Coke, Crane, Crockett, Dawson, Ector, Fisher, Gaines, Glasscock, Howard, Irion, Martin, Midland, Mitchell, Nolan, Pecos, Reagan, Schleicher, Scurry, Sterling, Sutton, Terrell, Tom Green, and Upton.
Forecast:
Today - A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 4 PM. Some storms may be severe. Partly sunny, high near 88. South wind around 15 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.
Tonight - Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 10 PM. Some storms could be severe. Mostly cloudy, low around 66. South wind 10 to 15 mph becoming east southeast in the evening. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
Thursday - Partly sunny, then gradually becoming sunny, high near 94. Southwest wind 5 to 10 mph.
Thursday Night - Mostly clear, low around 65. South wind 5 to 10 mph.
Friday - A 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 PM. Mostly sunny, high near 91. East wind 5 to 10 mph becoming south in the morning.
