Why Tonight's Full Moon is Called Pink

SAN ANGELO, TX — The April 2024 full moon, also known as the "pink moon," will cross the night sky tonight, April 23. 

According to the Farmer's Almanac, the full moon will reach its brightest point at 6:49 p.m. Central Time. 

The April full moon is commonly called the Pink Moon, but despite its nickname, the moon doesn't appear pink. It usually has the same golden hue as any other full moon.

The name originated from the pink flowers of the wild ground phlox, which bloom in early spring in the eastern United States and Canada, according to Almanac.com.

Experts recommend going out to an open area to watch as the moon rises above the horizon.
