SAN ANGELO, TX — A woman driving a maroon early model Chevrolet Tahoe was arrested for DWI after a rollover crash near the Houston Harte Expressway on Tuesday evening.
Eyewitnesses reported seeing the Tahoe speeding westbound on Dallas St., before colliding with a guardrail on the south side of the roadway. The SUV then skidded across the guardrail and rolled over, narrowly avoiding a plunge down the embankment onto the freeway.
The impact of the crash tore off the passenger-side front wheel of the Tahoe. Fortunately, the vehicle came to a stop before reaching the steep embankment.
Witnesses observed the driver exiting the vehicle through the passenger side window, and several motorists stopped to offer assistance.
Upon arrival, police officers suspected the driver of being impaired and conducted a field sobriety test. Despite her attempts to convince the officers otherwise, she was ultimately arrested for DWI and transported to the county jail in a Ford Interceptor.
Home Motors was called to the scene to lift the Tahoe over the guardrail for removal to the wrecking yard.
Although witnesses described the sound of the crash as resembling cannon fire, no serious injuries were reported. The roadway conditions were dry, skies were clear, and the incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. with the vehicle occupied solely by the driver.
