Amazon Building a New Delivery Station in San Angelo

SAN ANGELO, Texas — E-commerce giant Amazon has announced its plans to bolster its presence in Texas with the introduction of a new delivery station slated to open its doors in San Angelo in 2024. The upcoming facility, spanning approximately 32,800 square feet, will be situated at the convergence of Venture Drive and Gateway Drive, just off State Loop 306. Construction for this pivotal expansion initiative is already in motion.

"This last mile facility will allow us to better serve customers in San Angelo and the surrounding area," remarked Jessica Breaux, senior manager of economic development for Amazon. "We're grateful for our partnership with the City of San Angelo and the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce. We look forward to sharing more details about this facility in the future."

Designed to enhance Amazon's last-mile delivery capabilities, the forthcoming establishment will play a critical role in facilitating swift, everyday deliveries directly to customers' doorsteps. At delivery stations like this one, packages are received from Amazon fulfillment and sortation centers before being processed by employees for final-mile delivery. Most employees in customer fulfillment and transportation typically earn between $17 and $28 per hour.

Mayor Brenda Gunter expressed her enthusiasm for the economic boost the Amazon venture promises to bring to San Angelo, stating, "The completion of negotiations and construction of the Amazon last mile facility further advances the strategic economic development logistics program of 'Planes, Trains and Automobiles' that connects the San Angelo economy to global manufacturing and trade. I am pleased to welcome Amazon to San Angelo and we shall continue to support Amazon's long-term goals in West Texas."

Amazon's footprint in Texas has steadily expanded since 2010, with the company having created over 89,000 full- and part-time jobs and poured more than $54 billion into the state's economy through investments in infrastructure and employee compensation. These investments have also catalyzed the creation of over 166,600 indirect jobs, spanning sectors from construction and logistics to professional services. Furthermore, more than 38,000 independent sellers, predominantly small and medium-sized businesses, in Texas are leveraging Amazon's platform to reach customers, thereby generating thousands of additional jobs across the state.

Michael Looney, Vice President of Economic Development at the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, voiced his excitement about the commencement of construction on the last mile facility, remarking, "A deal of this complexity has required the precise orchestration of our partners from both Amazon and their development team. We are excited to get started."

Walt Koenig, President and CEO of the San Angelo Chamber of Commerce, extended a warm welcome to Amazon on behalf of the chamber's members and board of directors. "This has been a rigorous and intricate process involving many partners," he noted. "I am proud of the Chamber team and City of San Angelo partners for the orchestration of this effort to a successful conclusion."
