WALL, TX — The No. 2 Wall Hawks hosted the Ballinger Bearcats for a district matchup on Monday, April 1, at Wall High School. The Bearcats kept the game close early, but two home runs from the Hawks’ Catcher Gunnar Dillard gave Wall the momentum needed to close out Ballinger. The Hawks won Game 1 of the 2-game series with the Bearcats, 10-3.
Wall struggled early on offense against a lefty Ballinger put out on the mound the first four innings. The Hawks made solid contact, but the ball always seemed to go straight toward a Bearcat defender. Gunnar Dillard gave Wall the lead with home runs on back-to-back at-bats.

Ballinger trailed 4-1 heading into the 5th inning, but Wall’s offense woke up from there. The Hawks scored three runs in the 5th and four runs in the 6th to put Ballinger away, 10-2. The highlights of those innings were a triple from Augden Hallmark, a 2-RBI double from Will Scherrer, and a sac RBI from Caleb Braden.
Wall’s Dylan Gidney received the win for his performance on the mound on Monday. Gidney allowed two runs through six innings of work. Ballinger added an additional run in the 7th when Will Scherrer took over for Gidney, but Scherrer closed out the game with no further runs allowed.

Wall improved to 8-0 in district with the win on Monday. The Hawks return to action against Ballinger on the road on Friday, April 5. First pitch is scheduled for 7 p.m.
