Manhunt in Santa Rita

SAN ANGELO, TX — A vehicle crashed into a utility pole near the intersection of W. Avenue J and Grierson in the historic Santa Rita neighborhood just before 8 p.m. What ensued was a few hours of tense nerves as residents witnessed San Angelo police search for presumably an armed man who had fled the scene of the crash.

Police drones zoomed overhead as police searched yard-by-yard. One home allowed police to search inside as other residents clutched to their firearms. The word on the street at one point was that two suspects were armed.

A utility pole that appeared to be for electricity was downed completely and laid across a frontward as power lines around it were drooping.

On the jail logs, a 20-year-old man was arrested for minor consuming alcohol, evading arrest/detention, unlawful carrying of a firearm, and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was booked into the jail at 10:45 p.m. but we have not confirmed this was one of the suspects. Nor could be officially confirm there were two suspects total.

We will ask police in the morning.
