CANYON, TX — The Angelo State Rams Basketball team ended their 2023-2024 season in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional Tournament quarterfinals on Saturday, March 16. The Rams matched up with their rivals, the West Texas A&M Buffs, in Canyon, TX. After a hard-fought battle, the Rams fell 81-66.
After the Buffs built an early lead, the Rams came back to take a 4-point advantage with six minutes left in the half. Angelo State scored the majority of their points from the three-point line early, but a 15-2 run in the last four minutes proved to be the difference in the game.
The Rams never truly managed to climb back into the game in the second half. West Texas A&M dominated the free throw line. The Buffs made 26-30 free throws in the contest. Angelo State played a solid game throughout. The Rams shot 43% from the floor and 52% from three. The late run in the first half by WT was the only point in time where the Buffs looked like the better team.
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson led the Rams on Saturday with 21 points, followed by Willie Guy with 16 points and Kevon Godwin with 10 points. Angelo State finishes this season with a 19-11 overall record and an NCAA Tournament appearance for the second year in a row.
