Shannon Medical Center Announces Major Expansion

SAN ANGELO, TX — Shannon Medical Center has unveiled plans for an expansion across its services.

At the forefront of this expansion is the development of the Women's and Children's Hospital, introducing a “state-of-the-art” observation unit, labor and delivery rooms, “cutting-edge” operating rooms, and 10 “spacious” patient rooms. 

This expansion is complemented by the introduction of a board-certified neonatology program, which will allow specialized nursery care to be available locally.

Neonatology is defined as the medical specialty that treats newborns who are premature or have medical problems.

Continuing its commitment to meet the growing healthcare needs of the community, Shannon's main downtown campus is also set to expand. 

According to Shannon, the hospital will unveil its west tower addition by the summer of 2024. 

This includes three levels of parking, an expansion of the ICU to double its current size, and three floors of patient rooms. 

This expansion will add 100 more beds, increasing the hospital's capacity to serve the growing patient population in San Angelo and the surrounding areas.

We reported earlier that Shannon’s radiation oncology department at the Shannon Cancer Center is now officially recognized as a tattoo- and mark-free radiation treatment center.
