SAN ANGELO, TX — Cody Vasquez, the senior admissions officer in the Angelo State University Office of Admissions, was recognized with a 2024 Distinguished University Staff Award from the Texas Association of Chicanos in Higher Education (TACHE) at the recent 49th annual TACHE Conference in San Antonio.
According to TACHE, the award recognizes superior levels of professionalism and accomplishment in the areas of initiative, productivity, critical thinking, effectiveness, and customer service. Vasquez was presented with a plaque and a $1,000 honorarium.
As the senior admissions officer, Vasquez is at the frontlines of Angelo State's recruiting efforts. He represents ASU at college days and other recruiting events throughout the state, helps prospective students with their ASU applications, and works with prospective students and their families throughout the application process. He also helps train a staff of seven other admissions counselors.
"It is truly humbling to receive the Distinguished University Staff Award," Vasquez said. "I viewed this recognition as a chance to showcase my dedication to representing myself, my cultural background, and our university at a state level. I am grateful to TACHE for the warm welcome and for hosting such a valuable professional conference. This award would not have been possible without the support of the ASU Association of Mexican American Students and my exceptional colleagues in the Office of Admissions. I am proud to represent Angelo State University each and every day."
A two-time Angelo State alumnus, Vasquez holds Bachelor of Business Administration and Master of Business Administration degrees from ASU, as well as a Master of Arts in interdisciplinary studies from Texas Tech University. A native of Midland, he attended Early College High School at Midland College, graduating with both his high school diploma and an associate degree. In 2023, he was named a Midland College Alum of the Year.
Outside of ASU, Vasquez also runs his own business, the Vasquez Development Group, which offers professional, leadership and life-skills training for high school and college students and young professionals through its Rising Leaders Program.
For his work with the Vasquez Development Group, Vasquez earned a 2021 San Angelo Chamber of Commerce Community Impact Award and was a 2022 Chamber of Commerce "20 Under 40" honoree.
