SAN ANGELO, TX — Angelo State University's Dr. Ralph R. Chase West Texas Collection (WTC) will host a special reception to mark the closing of its long-running exhibit, "Don't Forget to Write: Messages from the Archive," on Thursday, March 7, in the ASU Mayer Museum at 2501 W. Ave. N.
The reception will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will include a panel discussion starting at 6 p.m. featuring members of the Janek, Perez and Tweedy families, whose collections of letters are displayed in the exhibit. The event is free and open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
"Don't Forget to Write: Messages from the Archive" began its nearly six-month run on display in the Mayer Museum in September 2023, and it will remain open through this Saturday, March 8. Patrons are invited to travel to the past through the words of those who lived it. Showcasing letters written by and to West Texans, the exhibit explores a variety of topics, including the frontier experience, wartime correspondence, business and politics.
After it closes, elements of the exhibit will remain available for free public viewing in the WTC Reading Room that is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday in the Mayer Museum building. It can also be accessed online at angelo.edu/wtc.
