ABILENE, TX — Two men have been arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident in Abilene that resulted in the death of 59-year-old Donan Myron Justice.
The incident occurred on Thursday morning, February 29, 2024, in Abilene at the intersection of Highway 351 and the entrance to the Walmart SuperCenter, where Justice, who was in his wheelchair, was struck by a vehicle traveling east. The driver fled the scene, and a second vehicle also struck Justice before continuing without stopping.
Witnesses at the scene tried to assist Justice, but he was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Mike McAuliffe shortly afterward.
Robby Wayne Hale, 37, of Clyde, was arrested at a Clyde residence in connection to the hit-and-run. Hale has been booked into the Taylor County Jail and charged with a second-degree felony for an accident involving death. Additionally, John Daniel Gonzales, 58, of Abilene, was arrested and faces charges of a second-degree felony accident involving death.
Abilene Police emphasize that the investigation remains ongoing, and traffic investigators are actively seeking the driver of a third vehicle for questioning. The community awaits further developments as authorities work to piece together the circumstances surrounding this incident.
