AMARILLO, TX — A 20-year-old Amarillo woman has been indicted for the murder of her 7-month-old son, Jackson Knight Blackmon. According to court documents, Angel Lynn Marie Varner allegedly knew her son wasn't breathing after throwing him onto the floor.
The event took place in November at the duplex Varner shared with Jackson's father and two other roommates. In the early hours of the morning, Jackson woke up crying in his crib in the living room. A roommate, sleeping in the living room with her boyfriend, reported to the police that Varner entered the living room, took her son into the bedroom, and a short time later, heard a thud.
The autopsy revealed the cause of death as blunt force trauma. During an interview, Varner admitted to throwing Jackson on the bed, swaddling him with blankets, applying pressure to his abdomen until he stopped crying, and ultimately throwing him on the floor before going to sleep.
A day before her arrest, Varner created a GoFundMe page to raise funds for funeral expenses.
This incident has left the community in shock, and authorities will proceed with legal proceedings against Varner for the alleged murder of her infant son.
