No. 1 Angelo State HC Kevin Brooks Talks Rams Opening Series

SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 1 Angelo State Rams split a four-game series with the Eastern New Mexico Greyhounds over the weekend to open up the 2024 season in Portales, New Mexico.

Angelo State won Game 1 on Friday 5-3 before they dropped Game 2 Friday night 3-4 and Game 3 on Saturday 9-12. The Rams closed out the series on Sunday with a dominant 8-0 victory. Coach Kevin Brooks gave his thoughts on his team’s overall performance over the series in a press conference held on Monday at the Junell Center in San Angelo.

Brooks spoke to the growing pains his team will experience in the earlier parts of this season after replacing some big names on last season’s national championship roster.

“I’ve said this a number of times: we can replace the number of guys we lost, but we can’t replace the people, Brooks said. “So, people have to step up into some different roles, and that takes some time and some experience. I thought we saw some of that happening, so that’s good.”

The Rams should be pleased that they at least managed to split the series in Portales, as Eastern New Mexico is a tough place to play. However, the National Champs need to figure it out quickly if they want to remain dominant headed through Lone Star Conference play.

Angelo State returns to action on Friday, February 5, when the Rams make their 2024 home debut in a four-game series against Cameron at Foster Field at 1st Community Credit Union Stadium. First pitch for Game 1 on Friday is scheduled for 3 p.m.
