SAN ANGELO, TX - The National Weather Service in San Angelo, in conjunction with the city of San Angelo, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Southeastern Tom Green County and Irion County until 6:45 p.m.
At 5:54 p.m. a severe thunderstorm, moving east at a rate of 50 mph, was pinpointed over Mertzon. The primary hazards associated with this storm include 60 mph wind gusts and penny-sized hail, according to radar indications.
The city of San Angelo emphasized the potential for hail of at least 1 inch in diameter and/or winds over 58 mph. Residents in the affected areas are strongly advised to seek shelter immediately.
The storm's projected path indicates that it will reach Tankersley and Knickerbocker around 6 p.m., Twin Buttes Reservoir around 6:05 p.m., San Angelo and Lake Nasworthy around 6:10 p.m., O.C. Fisher Reservoir and Goodfellow Air Force Base around 6:20 p.m., and Wall around 6:25 p.m.
Other locations expected to be impacted include Harriet and US-67 near the Irion-Tom Green County line.
