SAN ANGELO, TX — The Angelo State Rams and Rambelles closed out their 2-game home stand on Saturday, January 27, with back-to-back wins over the St. Edward’s Hilltoppers.
Angelo State Rambelles 76 St. Edward’s 68
The Rambelles entered Saturday’s contest after a win over St. Mary’s last Thursday. Coach Alesha Ellis said the Rambelles needed to show consistency over several matchups if they want to be successful. Angelo State did just that on Saturday. An overall balanced attack kept St. Edward’s at bay as the Rambelles ground them down towards another victory.
Angelo State led 37-28 at the break and continued that dominance in the third quarter. St. Edward’s attempted a comeback in the fourth when they outscored the Belles 24-16, but the Hilltoppers were too far behind at that point. Angelo State improved to 15-6 on the season with the win.
Madeline Stephens led the Belles on offense with 21 points. Sawyer Lloyd followed with 18, and Tayjanna McGhee-Pleasant finished with 14 points. Angelo State hits the road next weekend when they travel to New Mexico to play Eastern and Western New Mexico.
Angelo State Rams 69 St. Edward’s 64
A dominant first-half performance gave the Rams the edge they needed to edge out the Hilltoppers. Angelo State stayed hot after last Thursday’s win over St. Mary’s from the 3-point line and shot 59.2 percent from the field in the first half. The Rams led by nine at the break.
St. Edwards roared back in the 2nd half to take the lead with less than 10 minutes left to play. Tied 64-64 with two minutes to play, clutch free throws from Angelo State sealed the victory 69-64.
Keyshawn Embery-Simpson led the Rams with 19 points, followed by Shemar Smith with 13, while DJ Basey and Kevon Godwin added 11 points. Angelo State hits the road next weekend when they travel to New Mexico to play Eastern and Western New Mexico.
