CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Cougars overcame a slow start to claim victory and send the Ozona Lions home with a loss, 60-38.

After the opening quarter, the Cougars were down, 6-5, to Ozona, who came in and sank a three-point shot, hit a lay-up, and a free throw. The Cougars went 1-4 from the free throw line in the first, and Stanton McGlothlin and Ethan Busch each had two points.
Christoval focused up in the second, adding 15 points to the board in their favor. Camden Balderas banked in two three-pointers, his brother, Gavin Balderas added three points, Bruce Cooper put up four, and Garrett Thompson hit two free throws.
The Lion’s Michael Daniels sank two free throws, Bernie Blanco added three points, and Hudson Fowler banked in two. At the half, the Cougars were up, 20-13.
Christoval improved their point totals for the third and fourth quarters by scoring 18 and 22 respectively. Busch, Gavin Balderas, and Cooper did the lion’s share of the scoring with Busch’s 16 points and Cooper and Balderas’ nine points each. In the fourth, Brennen Blalock sank a beautiful three point shot nearly from the Cougar’s bench and Camden Balderas also added three as well.
