The Lady Hawks Bylyn Watts and Emery Harper showed out in this contest early and often. The Lady Eagles kept it competitive for most of the first half, but the Lady Hawks proved too strong in the paint. Offensive rebounds and extra possessions gave Wall too many opportunities to score. Wall completely pulled away in the 2nd half for a dominant 83-55 victory.
Brylyn Watts finished the contest with a team-high 28 points. Harper added 18 points in the win. Wall hits the road to play the Coahoma Lady Bulldogs on Friday, January 26. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
No. 21 Wall Hawks 66 Grape Creek Eagles 17
The Hawks entered Tuesday night’s contest after suffering a crucial defeat to the TLCA Eagles last Friday in San Angelo. Wall needed a bounce-back win to stay atop District 6-3A with TLCA. After scoring only 28 points last Friday, Wall’s offense exploded early in the first quarter. Led by a hot start from Jager Thompson, the Hawks put up 21 first-quarter points to take a commanding lead. Grape Creek’s defense stepped up in the second quarter to hold Wall to nine points but never managed to kickstart their offense.
Wall opened up the second half with three straight 3-point shots. Augden Hallmark proved why he’s one of the most dangerous snipers in the district with two of those 3-pointers on his way to an 8-point quarter. Grape Creek played better in the second half but never managed to threaten the Hawks’ advantage and Wall took home the win, 66-17.
After the game, Wall’s Head Coach, Travis Dawson, gave his thoughts on his team’s performance. Check out the interview below:
