Lady Cougars Remain Undefeated, Cougars Get Back on Track against Forsan

CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Cougars got back in the win column against the Forsan Buffalos while the Lady Cougars continued to dominate and remain undefeated in district.

First up, the Lady Cougars were led by Full Metal Halle Hughes and Madyson George, who came alive in the fourth quarter, to beat the Lady Buffs, 40-36. Christoval survived the Forsan surge at the end of the game to stay undefeated in district.

Forsan kept the game close throughout the first quarter and gave Christoval a good fight. Hughes led in points for the first frame with four. Jae Thomason and Sophia Nemec each sank a three, and George had two for a point total of 12. The Lady Buffs did their damage from the free throw line where Lilly Hoff and Harleigh Greer went two-for-two and K’Leigh Williams and Lybertee Rodriguez hit one apiece for a total of six points.

The Lady Cougars woke up in the second quarter behind seven points from Hughes, five from George, and two apiece from Nemec and Jordyn Walker. The Lady Buffs tried to stay afloat but managed five points, four from Williams and Greer combined and one free throw from Audrey Kinsey. At halftime, the Lady Cougars were up 28-11.

Into the third, both teams only managed to put up single digit totals, seven for Christoval and six for Forsan. Christoval’s Braylee Silva had six of the seven and Kaylin Workman. Forsan’s Hoff, Williams, and Greer each had two points.

Entering the final quarter of the game, the Lady Cougars were up 35-17 but the Lady Buffalos went into overdrive and scored 19 points to close the gap. It would not be enough as George went off and was perfect from the free throw line, 4-4, and hit two three-pointers. Hughes had another two points and Aaliyah Bogs made both of her free throws for a 14 point fourth quarter total.

Williams and Greer did most of the work for the Lady Buffs in the fourth. Williams had nine points and Greer had eight points. Rodriguez was two-for-two from the line to give the Lady Buffs 19 in the fourth. In the end, the Lady Cougars won 49-36.
