How Did Your School Cafeteria Score in the Latest Health Inspection?

SAN ANGELO, TX - The City of San Angelo released the most recent health inspection scores Wednesday including some San Angelo ISD school cafeterias, which scored remarkably well.  

Inspectors assign demerits based on a scale:

• 0-10 demerits: Excellent
• 11-20 demerits: Good
• 21-30 demerits: Acceptable
• 31 or more demerits: Poor

A comprehensive food establishment inspection involves scrutiny of 27 different violations, each scored from three to five points. These violations encompass critical factors contributing to potential foodborne illnesses, such as improper cooling, inadequate cooking, and cross-contamination.

• Major Violations: Five-point violations involve time and temperature issues, while four-point violations address other critical issues requiring immediate corrective action.
• Non-Critical Violations: Three-point violations are non-critical and allow 10 days for correction.

All violations, except three-point violations, must be corrected as soon as possible, and no later than 90 days after inspection. Routine inspections occur between two to four times a year, depending on the establishment's risk and the food types served.

It's crucial to consider the nature of food processes at each establishment. A routine inspection captures a snapshot, not necessarily reflecting long-term cleanliness. Many violations are corrected on-site, and some may not be applicable or observed at the time of inspection.
