TxDOT Crews Prepping Roadways for Hazardous Weather

SAN ANGELO – As the anticipated arctic cold front approaches West Texas, TXDOT road crews have been preparing equipment. Over the last two days, they have applied more than 20,000 gallons of brine to bridges, overpasses, curves, and other identified trouble spots across our 15-county district. Despite the minimal likelihood of precipitation accompanying this front, the forecast indicates a slight chance in our eastern counties.

On Saturday, January 13, personnel driving tanker trucks filled with brine will be deployed to treat US 83 from Eden to Junction. Additionally, they will spray I-10 in Kimble County up to RM 3130 (7 miles west of the Sutton County line). Personnel and equipment are on standby in other locations in case of forecast changes.

It is crucial to emphasize that becoming stranded during this arctic freeze could pose a life-threatening situation. Ensure you have a blanket, snacks, and water with you. Always maintain a full fuel tank in your vehicle and have a cell phone charger on hand. If you find yourself stranded, call the Texas Roadside Assistance number at 1-800-525-5555 (also listed on the back of the Texas driver's license), and Texas Department of Public Safety personnel will respond.
