CANYON, TX — The Angelo State Rambelles traveled to Canyon on Thursday to play a Lone Star Conference matchup against West Texas A&M. The Belles hadn’t beaten the Lady Buffs in Canyon since 2019, but an incredible performance from Sawyer Lloyd lifted Angelo State over WT 70-58.
The ladies began the contest slow, scoring only five points in the first three and a half minutes. However, Lloyd soon turned her game up to hit a jumper to bring the Rambelles within eight points of the Lady Buffs at the end of the 1st quarter.
Angelo State began the 2nd on a 10-5 run, cutting the Lady Buff’s lead to two points, 22-20, with less than six minutes to play in the half. Keniah Williams made a layup with 3:23 remaining to give Angelo State the lead. The Belles led 36-30 at the break.
Lloyd took over in the 3rd quarter when she scored the first six points after halftime. The other ladies picked their game up and dominated on both ends of the floor. Angelo State led 55-41 at the end of the 3rd.
WT outscored Angelo State 17-15 in the 4th quarter, but the game was out of reach. The Belles won decisively in the end, 70-58. Sawyer Lloyd led the Rambelles with a season-high 25 points. She also snagged eleven rebounds to complete the double-double, adding five assists, five steals, and two blocks. Madeline Stephens played another great game with nine rebounds, six assists, three blocks, two steals, and one assist.
With the win, Angelo State moves to 12-4 overall on the season and 6-1 in the LSC. The Belles also sport a six-game winning streak. Angelo State returns to action on Saturday, January 13, in Lubbock for another LSC matchup against Lubbock Christian. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Rip Griffin Center.
