Stalker Tries to Run Ex-Girlfriend Over

ODESSA, TX — Robert Anthony Cassar of Odessa resident was arrested New Year’s Day following allegations of stalking and assaulting his former girlfriend during the previous summer. Cassar faces charges of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Stalking.

According to a report from the Odessa Police Department, on July 3, 2023, law enforcement officers responded to a disturbance call at Walmart on JBS Parkway. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a woman who reported encountering her ex-boyfriend's gray Ford Mustang with distinctive purple stripes and wheels in the store's parking lot. Allegedly, Cassar, identified as the driver of the Mustang, recklessly accelerated toward the woman and her friend, prompting them to seek refuge behind protective barriers near the store's entrance. Several witnesses at the scene corroborated the women's version of events.

Subsequently, authorities contacted Cassar by phone later that day. Allegedly, Cassar made conflicting statements regarding his whereabouts, placing himself at the scene. Additionally, on July 12, law enforcement officers were summoned to Walmart once again at the victim's request. During this incident, the victim reported receiving multiple calls from a blocked number, believed to be Cassar. Despite previously instructing him to cease contact, the victim claimed Cassar persisted in attempting to communicate. Concerned for her safety, she sought police assistance to ensure Cassar was not present in the area, allowing her to access her vehicle without incident.

In December, law enforcement officials sought an arrest warrant for Cassar, culminating in his apprehension on January 1, 2024. Cassar is currently being held at the Ector County Jail, pending the setting of his bond.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Cassar's bond had not yet been set.
