SAN ANGELO, TX — The No. 17 TLCA San Angelo Eagles hosted the Grape Creek Eagles for a district matchup on Tuesday night, January 2. TLCA defeated Jim Ned in their district opener and continued that success against Grape Creek on their home court. TLCA led from start to finish and cemented a dominant victory, 85-52.
Multiple players on TLCA’s roster put up double-digit scoring numbers on the way to another district win. Drew Sherril put TLCA ahead in the first quarter with 12 points. Luis Casillas powered the Eagles in the second with 14 points, and TLCA led 53-24 at the half.
TLCA would put up an additional 20 points in the third quarter before several guys on the roster took the rest of the night off. Grape Creek battled throughout the contest and refused to quit. Grape Creek even outscored TLCA 22-12 in the final frame to put the Eagles over 50 points overall. Despite the hot fourth quarter, TLCA still won this one handily, 85-52.
Drew Sherrill led TLCA in points with 24, followed by Luis Casillas with 20 points and A-Jay Romero with 13 points. Darrell West led all Grape Creek scorers with 22 points. Angel Perez added 12 points.
TLCA hits the road on Friday, January 5, for another district matchup. This time, against the Coahoma Bulldogs. Grape Creek returns home on Friday to host the Jim Ned Indians. Tip-off for TLCA is scheduled for 7:45 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. for Grape Creek.
