SAN ANGELO, TX - Start the new year on an adventurous note as San Angelo State Park invites the public to join the New Year's Day Hike tomorrow at 10 a.m.
"First Day Hikes" is a nationwide program to encourage hiking on New Year's Day,” information from the Texas Parks & Wildlife Department stated. “Start a new tradition and join us!”
The 2024 hike will be a one- to two-mile trek, with participants gathering at the "Chaparral Pavilion."

Throughout the month, the state park has lined up a series of events.
On Saturday, Jan. 6, at 10 a.m., visitors can engage in bison and longhorn viewing alongside a ranger.
The meeting point for this experience is the "viewing area."
Later that day, at 5 p.m., yoga enthusiasts can partake in "Sunset Yoga in the Park" at the Chaparral Pavilion.
This event will happen again on Saturday, Jan. 20.
For our furry friends and their human companions, a unique canine-centric hike is scheduled for Sunday, Jan. 7.
Commencing at 10 a.m., the "It's a leashed fur baby hike" encourages dogs to bring their humans to the park, and interested parties should assemble at the Chaparral Pavilion.
This hike is 1.25 miles long.
Responsible pet ownership is emphasized, reminding participants to bring along those essential poop bags.
Wrapping up the month's outdoor festivities is the "Women's Hike" on Sunday, Jan. 21.
The hike, featuring a one-to-three-mile trail, will commence at 10 a.m.
Those interested are asked to meet at the playground parking lot.
