ABILENE, TX - An early morning house fire in Abilene resulted in a resident sustaining burns while escaping the blaze that erupted at a duplex on the 600 block of EN 16th Street, shortly after 4:00 a.m. on Thursday.
According to information from the Abilene Fire Department, emergency response units encountered heavy smoke and flames emanating from the front section of the duplex. The sole resident present during the fire managed to evacuate and promptly dialed 9-1-1. Unfortunately, they incurred minor burn injuries during their escape and subsequently received immediate medical attention for treatment.
Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire, averting further escalation; however, the interior of the home sustained an estimated $20,000 worth of damage as a result of the incident.
As of now, no additional details, including the suspected cause of the fire, have been made public.
