Sheriff Moves Swiftly Against Suspect Who Made Threats Against Coahoma Public Schools

SAN ANGELO, TX — In Coahoma, a suspect is accused of making an online threat against the local schools and it prompted a rapid response from the Howard County Sheriff’s Office. On December 28, 2023, authorities were alerted to a potential threat aimed at Coahoma Schools, which cater to a student population of approximately 1,084. The threat was that something would happen after students returned from Christmas break.

The Sheriff’s Office identified a suspect, who was found to be living out of state. After conducting interviews, they determined that the individual did not plan to act on the threat. Nonetheless, the case is being prepared for presentation to prosecutors, reflecting a strict approach to handling threats against schools. Criminal charges may follow.

In response to the incident, the Sheriff’s Office has decided to increase security at Coahoma Schools when classes resume. This move is part of a broader effort to ensure student safety in the wake of the threat.

Coahoma is a small town situated about 11 miles from Big Spring and about 97 miles from both Abilene and San Angelo. The Sheriff has not identified who the suspect was or from where the suspect made the threats.
