SAN ANGELO— The TLCA San Angelo Eagles edged out the Jim Ned Indians in their district opener, 43-37.
In the district opener, the Jim Ned Indians traveled to San Angelo to take on the TLCA San Angelo Eagles and played a tight game all the way through. When the Eagles started to take control, the Indians came roaring back in close. After the first quarter, the game was tied, 12-12, and going in at the half, the Eagles were up 25-18. Even though TLCA San Angelo never lost the lead after halftime, the game never felt out of reach for the Indians.
The first quarter started off with a bang for both teams, Jim Ned’s Hank Ritter came in hot, hitting two three-point shots. Wyatt Nickson and Carter Wood chipped in four and two points respectively.
A.J. Ramero wasn’t going to let Ritter steal the show and hit four two-point shots to start the game. Drew Sherrill made a free throw and Jaidden Villanueva drained a three.
Into the second quarter, TLCA San Angelo hit three three-point shots, courtesy of Preston Ramero, Luis Casillas, and Sherrill, and Villanueva hit a two-pointer. The Indians’ Carter Lange added four points and Ritter added another two.
At the half, the game leaned towards the TLCA San Angelo Eagles, 25-18.
The third quarter would be a low scoring one as both teams added four points to their totals. Jim Ned’s Carter Lange and TLCA San Angelo’s A.J. Ramero scored all their team’s points after the break. Now, the score was 29-22 going into the fourth.
The Indians actually outscored the Eagles in the final frame of the game, 15-14. A.J and Preston Ramero scored five and two points respectively. Natavian Sykes added two, Casillas scored four, and Villanueva added one point. Carter Lange scored six of the 15 total with Harrison Phelps scoring five. Colt Lindsey made a two-point shot and Ritter did as well. In the end, the TLCA San Angelo Eagles walked out of the gym with a district victory over the Jim Ned Indians, 43-37.
The TLCA San Angelo Eagles and Jim Ned Indians return to district play after the Christmas Holiday. The Eagles will stay in San Angelo and play the Grape Creek Eagles. The Jim Ned Indians will take on the Coahoma Bulldogs. Both of those games will take place on January 2, 2024.
