Dallas Can Still Win the NFC East After Eagles' MNF Loss

FRISCO, TX — After the lopsided loss to the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, hopes for an NFC East title seemed out of reach. However, after the backup quarterback led a game-winning touchdown drive late in the 4th quarter in the Seattle Seahawks Monday Night Football win over the Philadelphia Eagles, the NFC East Crown is back up for grabs.

The Eagles’ loss leaves both Dallas and Philadelphia knotted up at 10-4 on the season with three games to go until the playoffs. The Cowboys easily have the more difficult schedule as they travel to the 10-4 Miami Dolphins before hosting the 10-4 Detroit Lions and ending the 2023 regular season at the Washington Commanders. Meanwhile, the Eagles play the stumbling New York Giants twice and host the 3-10 Arizona Cardinals.

Despite the difficult schedule ahead, Cowboys’ Owner Jerry Jones said that the ending of Monday night’s game thrilled him.

"It was marvelous," Jones said about the Eagles' loss on Shan & RJ on Audacy's 105.3 The Fan. "I watched every bit of it. I was about to doze (off), and then when they made those two plays at the end. I couldn't sleep until four this morning because of the impact it can have on our year and our season."

Now, for Dallas to win the NFC East, the Cowboys will either have to win out or win two out of the three games remaining on the schedule, while the Eagles have to lose at least one more game. However, if the Cowboys drop the game in Washington to the Commanders, they will most certainly fall to one of the Wild Card spots in the NFC.

Surprisingly, attaining the No. 1 seed in the NFC playoffs is still possible for Dallas. Currently, the San Francisco 49ers hold the No. 1 seed with an 11-3 overall record. Even if Dallas wins out, San Fran would have to lose two of its final three games to drop because the 49ers beat Dallas earlier in the season. While the probability of the No. 1 seed seems unlikely, crazier things have happened at the end of an NFL regular season.
