Lady Cougars Dominate in First District Win over Reagan County

CHRISTOVAL— The Christoval Lady Cougars dominated in their first district basketball game against the Reagan County Lady Owls at home last night, 51-17.

Scoring double digit points in each quarter, the Lady Cougars did not let up and it did not seem to matter who came in off the bench and who didn’t. Aaliyah Bogs started off hot, hitting two three-point shots and making a free throw in the opening quarter. Sienna Gonzales and Jordyn Walker also got on the scoreboard with three points apiece.

Reagan County’s Kennedy Roberts turned in four points and Ashley Lopez made a free throw. At the end of one, the Lady Cougars were up 13-5.

Christoval kept it up in the second quarter, where Bogs added three, Walker added five, and Sophia Nemec added her name to the score sheet with seven. The Lady Owls did not make a basket in the second quarter, in large part to the Lady Cougar’s defense. The score at halftime was 28-5 with the Lady Cougars in control.

The third quarter kicked off and the Lady Cougars continued to add points to the scoreboard. Kaylin Workman threw up a two-pointer, Walker added to her total with six, and Nemec hit two free throws and a three-point shot.

The Lady Owls came out after the half and added seven, all from Roberts. Going into the final frame, the Lady Cougars were up, 41-12.

Into the fourth, Christoval continued with Walker scoring another three points, Nemec another two, Bogs hit another three-pointer, and Madyson George got on the boards with a two-pointer. The Lady Owl’s Lopez hit a two-point shot and Jazlynn Acevedo hit a three.

With the ringing of the buzzer, the Lady Cougars left the court with a win in their first district matchup of the year, 51-17.

This Christoval team returned every starter from last season, where they made it three rounds deep in the playoffs. It seems they’ve picked up right where they left off, under a new head coach, Brad Blalock, no less. They are currently on a six-game winning streak and turn their attention to the Forsan Lady Buffaloes this coming Friday.

The Lady Owls will get to travel again, now to Sterling City to take on the Lady Eagles.
