BROWNWOOD— A Brownwood woman has been arrested for resisting arrest and trying to run over an individual then fighting police officers.
According to information released by the Brownwood Police Department. Kiera Nicole Franklin, 22, of Brownwood, has been arrested on several charges including Driving While Intoxicated, Resisting Arrest, and Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon among others.
At 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, December 3, 2023, Brownwood police officers were dispatched to 3700 block of Savoy Drive regarding a complaint. The complainant said to dispatchers that a woman, identified as Franklin, was driving a red SUV and had hit multiple parked cars trying to run over another woman.
When officers approached the area, the located Franklin and stopped her at the 2100 block of 14th Street. When officers tried to talk to Franklin, they noticed a strong smell of alcohol coming from her. A field sobriety test was performed, and she was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated.
As Franklin was being taken into custody, she resisted officers by pulling her arms way and even tried to walk away. Then, she began screaming and cursing at the officers, threatening them and calling them racial slurs. Franklin escalated the scene by spitting at and on officers throughout the encounter.
Franklin became extremely aggressive and threatened to cut off the officer’s heads, have other people attack them, and have the officer’s heads brought to her door. All the while kicking and fighting with officers as they continued to arrest her.
According to an officer on scene, Franklin arrived at the apartment complex looking for a woman who she then attempted to run over with her vehicle. In that attempt, she hit four parked cars.
Franklin was eventually arrested and charged with Driving While Intoxicated, Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Resisting Arrest, Harassment of a Public Servant, and several counts of Striking an Unattended Vehicle. Her bond has been set at $59,000.
